Life's a Beach... Well Maybe Not For Me

Day two of our mini beach vacation and my sister and I have all the kids fed, cleaned up and tucked in bed.   I have decided I really just don't like the beach very much.   We spent the morning on the beach, came home for lunch and naps, and spent the entire afternoon at the beach.   My sister and I had very different experiences of the same day.

Sure we may look like we're having fun.  I brought a beach umbrella, but spending the whole day in the direct sunlight seems to suck the life right out of me.  Lots of people are soothed by the sound of crashing waves.  Call me crazy, but I just find it loud and annoying.  I felt like a sherpa hauling all our crap across the sand.  But my biggest gripe... the sand.  I just plain don't like sand.  I don't like it on my feet, I don't like it stuck to my sunscreen soaked legs, I don't like piles of it in my bag.  Don't even get me started on all the sand tracked into the house and piled up in the bathtub.  I go to take a drink from my water bottle, and it's covered in sand.  We break out the snacks and five minutes later, it's all covered in sand.  Sand, sand, sand.  It's my own personal hell, the stinky seaweed everywhere and salt water on my lips.  I realize this is a very unpopular opinion, especially judging by how crowded it was at the beach today.

Now don't get the wrong idea, I love the water.  Give me a swimming pool or a lake any day.  I could spend all day sipping ice tea by a pool or jumping into a cool lake off a water ski boat.  I've had all I can take of beach fun for a while.

My sister on the other hand, loves everything about it.   I think she could live here.  While my kids were asking for a new bathing suit when they got a little sand in their nether regions, her kids were practically dipping their pretzels in sand and licking it off.

The cousins made great memories and I survived just fine.  But you won't catch me at the beach anytime soon.

Thank you Mama GingerTree for sticking it out on our mini beach vacation! Despite everyone being completely exhausted by the end of it, it really was a great time - and I know the cousins will remember these trips with each other forever. I know I will!

I really do love the beach - it's so funny that we have such different experiences with the same thing, but more than anything, I love spending time with you and our kids!!!

Jolly: Don't get the wrong idea. I had a fantastic time. I think I had sun stroke or something by the end of day two. I love seeing our kids play together and I know they will always remember this trip and the many others.

Next time, let's go somewhere with no sand.

I'm LOL at the "dipping the pretzels in sand" comment.
I love the beach like crazy, but I admit that I don't eat on the beach often. I don't dig crunching into sand (just writing that gave me a chill!).
Great blog! I came here from AllMediocre.
